Community Profile

The Komen Community Profile is a local needs assessment conducted every two years by every Komen Affiliate. The goal of the Community Profile is to identify gaps in services, improve breast health services and be more aware of populations most in need of breast health services.

Upon completion of an in-depth data analysis of our eight-county service area, target areas based on incidence and mortality rates, screening rates, key informant interviews, provider surveys, survivor survey, and an African American focus group were identified. While we understand the need is greater than ever before, the Southeast Wisconsin Affiliate has limited resources. Therefore, it was necessary to determine where the biggest impact (increased screening rates leading to an overall decrease in mortality) can be made with the financial and human resources currently available. Milwaukee, Racine and Waukesha counties were identified as key target areas. Barriers to screening and treatment need to be broken so age appropriate uninsured and underinsured women not having access to regular breast health screenings or individuals in need of earlier screenings as a result of family history will have an opportunity to access routine breast health services.

Funding Priorities

The Southeast Wisconsin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is currently accepting grant applications 2010-2011 RFA for evidence-based strategies and promising practices to reduce breast cancer mortality in our eight-county service area which includes Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, Jefferson, Walworth, Washington and Ozaukee counties. Priority consideration will be given to applicants proposing services for individuals in Milwaukee, Racine and Waukesha counties. Within our eight-county service area, these three counties have the most number of women being diagnosed and dying from breast cancer.
