Fundraising FAQs

Does the money raised stay right here in our community?
Yes! 75 percent of the Race’s net income stays in Southeast Wisconsin to fund local screening, treatment and education programs for the medically underserved. The remaining 25 percent supports the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Award and Research Grant Program, which fund groundbreaking breast cancer research.

Does the Komen Race for the Cure require fundraising? It is not required. However, participant fundraising is critical to the success of the programs funded by Komen Southeast Wisconsin. If every Race participant raises just $100 in addition to their registration fee, we would bring in an additional $1,100,000 to support local screening, treatment and educational programs in our community!

What kind of fundraising rewards can I earn?
Not only do your fundraising efforts make an impact, but you start earning great rewards once you’ve reached $250 in donations! Visit our Fundraising page for suggestions and tips on successful fundraising.

Does my registration fee count as a donation?
No. Registration fees do not count as donations.

        Where do I send donations?
Click here to download a mail-in donation form or pledge form.
For donations on behalf of an individual participant or a team, please include that information with your check.

Is there a deadline for fundraising?

How do I submit cash donations?
We do accept cash donations, but recommend you bring them to the Pettit Center  t-shirt pick up  in September or with you on Race day.  Please do not mail cash.

            Is my registration fee tax-deductible?
No, your registration fee helps defray the costs of producing the Race and is not considered tax deductable. However, any amount that you choose to donate above the entry fee is tax-deductible.

              Can volunteers fundraise?
Volunteers are encouraged to collect donations for the Komen Southeast Wisconsin.

If I don’t participate in the event, what happens to the money I have raised?
All donations to the Race are non-transferable and non-refundable. If you are unable to participate in the event, your donations will go directly to the cause as if you had participated.

                Donor FAQ

How do I find a participant's personal fundraising webpage?
Search our participant database by first or last name.

Why is the participant search not finding the person I'm looking for?
You must enter their name exactly the way it they entered it at registration. Try entering just the first few letters of the participant's name for more results.

How do I make a donation to a team?
If you don’t have a direct link to the team’s fundraising page, you can do a team name search. If you make a donation directly to a team, it will contribute to the fundraising goal of the entire team, not an individual team member.

Who should I make my check payable to?

                          Matching Gifts FAQ

                           What is a matching gift?
A matching gift is when a person makes a donation to a nonprofit organization and their employer donates an equal or greater amount to the same group. A matching gift is a great way for a donor to increase their contribution to the breast cancer movement.

How do I know if a company will make a matching gift for a donation?
The only way to know for sure is for the donor to ask their employer.

How does a donor apply for a matching gift?
In general, companies process matching gifts either by paper or online. Donors will need to check with their employer to find out which process they use. Our Matching Gifts page provides general overview of the typical matching gifts processes.

The matching gift company has a list of nonprofit organizations to choose from; which name should I pick?
It is very important to select Susan G. Komen Southeast Wisconsin Race for the Cure in order for the participant to receive credit for a matching gift. Please do not choose Susan G. Komen for the Cure or any other charity as the designated organization.

Where should I mail the matching gift form? Once the participant has made a copy of the matching gift form, it should be mailed to the Komen Southeast Wisconsin Race for the Cure donation receipt to:
Komen SE Wisconsin Race for the Cure
                              c/o Hermes Sports & Events
                              1624 St. Clair Avenue
                              Cleveland, OH 44114

Can the donor mail the matching gift form?
We recommend participants mail matching gift forms so they can record the mailing date and ensure it is mailed to the correct address. Donors are responsible for completing the matching gift process if their company uses an online system.

How long does take for the matching gift company to cut a check for the matching gift?
Company programs vary - please contact them directly to find out how often matching gift checks are cut and mailed.

What happens if a matching gift is not approved by a matching gift company?
If a matching gift company does not approve a matching gift, the company will contact either the donor or the Race. If the Race is contacted, we share the information with the participant.

Does my company provide matching gifts?
There is a listing of organizations who have given to us in the past.  This is not exhaustive. Please contact your companies Human Resource Department for further questions.
